Our Welfare Programs

Vets For Future was founded on compassion towards animals. As humans, we believe we have a responsibility to help animals in need. With the help of other like-minded people we have done different types of animal welfare programs.

Animal Feeding Programs

At Vets for Future, we believe compassion isn’t just about providing medical care, it’s also about ensuring that every animal has access to necessities, like food. That’s why we’ve organized animal feeding programs to support stray and abandoned animals in need. Stray animals, particularly in urban and rural areas, often struggle to find enough food to survive. With limited resources and the growing number of abandoned animals, many suffer from malnutrition and related health issues. Temples, markets, and other community spaces often see an influx of stray animals seeking scraps, but these are rarely enough to sustain them.

By organizing feeding programs, we provide meals to hungry animals in key locations, such as temples, community centers, and busy streets where strays are most often found. We organize these feeding programs simultaneously with vaccination projects that we do in different cities. In Mannar, Sigiriya, and Anuradhapura we have done large-scale feeding programs with the help of locals. Organizations such as Bridging Lanka, Adopt a Dog, and Justice for Animals have supported us with these feeding programs.

These programs create an opportunity to connect with local communities and educate them about humane treatment and our responsibility for animal welfare. The feeding programs also help us identify animals that need additional care, such as medical attention, sterilization, or vaccinations. This holistic approach ensures that the animals not only get food but also the long-term support they need for a healthier life. A small act of kindness such as providing a meal for a hungry animal can make a huge difference. Join the effort, together we can build a world where every animal is treated with the care and respect they deserve.

Free Animal Health Clinics

Many animals in rural and underserved areas lack access to essential healthcare. To address this, we have organized free animal health clinics to provide much-needed medical care to animals and support the communities that care for them. These clinics are designed to treat a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, cattle, and other domestic animals. Our team of veterinarians and volunteers offers services such as vaccinations, deworming, sterilizations, and treatments for injuries or illnesses.

By making these services free and accessible, we aim to improve the health and well-being of animals while also addressing the root causes of issues like overpopulation and disease spread. Education is a key part of these programs. At every clinic, we take the time to inform pet owners and animal caretakers about proper animal care, the importance of regular vaccinations, and humane population control measures like sterilization. This ensures that the positive impact of our work continues long after the clinics are completed.

These free clinics also foster stronger connections between our organization and local communities. By meeting people where they are, we not only provide essential services but also inspire greater awareness and compassion for animal welfare. Organizing these health clinics is part of our ongoing mission to create a better future for animals and humans alike. Each program is a step toward a world where animals receive the care they deserve, and communities are equipped to support them with kindness and responsibility.

Awareness programs

To address the challenges of animal welfare, we are exploring different types of new initiatives aiming to educate communities, spark conversations, and inspire collective action toward creating a compassionate future for animals and humans alike.

We organize seminars that offer a platform to discuss critical issues like stray animal management, the importance of sterilizations and vaccinations, and the humane treatment of animals. By inviting experts, community leaders, and the public, we can foster understanding and encourage responsible behavior toward animals.

We distribute leaflets that serve as an effective way to reach people with essential information. They can highlight key topics such as the epidemic of pet abandonment, understanding the benefits of neutering, and recognizing the role of vaccination in rabies prevention. We distribute these materials at events, temples, schools, and public spaces, ensuring the message reaches a wide audience.

Outreach programs such as Art competitions, especially for children, are a creative way to instill compassion for animals from a young age. The program intends to encourage kids to express their understanding of animal welfare through art. This not only raises nurture kindness it also allows the kids to test their skills and win prizes. The artwork made by the kids can then be showcased to further spread the message within the community.

Together, these programs can build a culture of care and responsibility. They not only address immediate issues but also create a foundation for long-term solutions by involving individuals, families, and communities in the mission to ensure the well-being of animals.

Animal shelter for dogs and cats

As part of our mission, we are running an animal shelter in Gampaha to provide a safe place for animals in need. The shelter is funded by the Adopt a Dog organization’s founder it serves as a space where abandoned, stray, or injured dogs and cats can find protection, care, and hope for a better future. Our shelter does offer essential veterinary services such as vaccinations, sterilizations, and treatments for injuries or illnesses. Special care will be provided for puppies, senior animals, and those with special needs, ensuring that every animal receives the attention it deserves.

Our shelter faced a huge challenge during the pandemic as our funding was cut down to none. While we were struggling to maintain the shelter, the Adopt a Dog organization stepped up to the task of helping with funding the daily expenses. We have big plans for our shelter as we intend to expand its services and help more animals in need. We aim to connect rescued animals with loving families and give them a second chance at life.

The shelter should be transformed into an effective rehabilitative facility for dogs and cats in need. This initiative needs more support and we hope to find more sponsors and volunteers so we can serve more animals. Together, we can make a lasting difference and make sure abandoned animals find a loving home.
